Press release on Employment Figures in Wales

Mike Hedges AM welcomes news that Employment in Wales increases faster than the UK average and now stands at an historic high level

Swansea East AM, Mike Hedges has welcomed the latest Labour Market Statistics which show that the labour market in Wales is continuing to perform very strongly with falling unemployment outperforming the rest of the UK for the sixth consecutive month.

Mike said.. ‘This is very good news for residents of Swansea East and Wales. Unemployment is a blight on society and it is welcome news that Wales now has 34 000 people in work than this time last year. This is a result of the policies of the Welsh Government and the partnerships between Welsh Government and the private sector.’

Employment in Wales is increasing faster than the UK average and now stands at an historic high level, with 34,000 more people in work now than 12 months before. The sharp fall in unemployment in Wales has again outperformed all regions of England, Scotland and Northern Ireland to reach 4.1%, a fall of 2.3% on the previous year and 0.8% lower than the UK average. Economic inactivity in Wales has also decreased.

The Welsh Government is continuing to work hard to support business and create the economic conditions to create and safeguard sustainable jobs across Wales.
