Mike Hedges remains sceptical about Biffa Plans for Llansamlet Site
Speaking after the recent open day, Swansea East AM Mike Hedges said that he remained sceptical of plans for a new incinerator for Llansamlet site.
Mike said…. Given the industrial past of the lower Swansea Valley and the pollution experienced by the area in the past it is sad that we are considering returning to polluting industries for this area. I have attended events at Swansea Vale nature reserve and am aware of the important ecology it provides. We have to take extra care when considering approving such applications. If there are impacts which only become apparent 20 years in the future – it is too late, we can’t undo the damage. We have to be sure now – and if we can’t be then we have to say no to these big companies.
I intend to ask for this application to be called in by the Environment Cabinet Secretary as soon as the application is submitted.
