Mike Hedges supports Health Screening

Mike Hedges AM is pleased to support Public Health Wales third annual ‘Screening for Life’ campaign held during July to raise awareness of the free national screening programmes offered by the NHS.
Mike fully supports the campaign which is aimed at encouraging eligible men and women across Wales to take up free NHS screening.
It also includes links to the websites of all the free, NHS screening programmes offered in Wales.
Throughout July, Public Health Wales’s Screening Engagement Team will be attending events throughout Wales to speak to members of the public about the screening programmes.
Events will include coffee mornings, and awareness raising sessions at churches, chapels, mosques, mother and toddler groups and Communities First events.
There will also be a focus on discussing screening with staff in large workplaces including the DVLA headquarters in Swansea.
Arriva Wales Bus, South Wales Transport, Cardiff Bus and First Cymru Buses will be displaying campaign posters inside their entire fleet of buses for the month.
For a full list of “Screening For Life” events, visit http://www.screening.wales.nhs.uk/ . If you are interested in supporting the campaign by holding a local event, a free Screening for Life resource pack is available on the website.
Dr Rosemary Fox, Director of Screening Division of Public Health Wales, said: “This is the third year of Screening For Life, which was very successful in 2013 and 2014 and saw us speak to thousands of people about screening.
“With four adult screening programmes and three mother and child screening programmes running in Wales, it can be confusing to know which programmes you are eligible for, and how to take part, and we look forward to answering any questions people may have.
“Every year, thousands of people ignore their screening invitation. Screening really can save your life, and we would urge everyone to have a good look at the information we send them and really consider attending for screening.”
Public Health Wales runs four screening programmes for adults – Breast Test Wales, Cervical Screening Wales, Bowel Screening Wales and the Wales Abdominal Aortic Aneurysm Screening Programme.
It also runs three mother and child health programmes – Antenatal Screening Wales, Newborn Hearing Screening Wales and Newborn Bloodspot Screening Wales.
Key Messages factsheets with important facts about each of the programmes can be found at http://www.screeningforlife.wales.nhs.uk/ http://www.screeningforlife.wales.nhs.uk/
