670 Welsh homes to be made more energy efficient

Welsh Labour’s Environment Minister, John Griffiths has announced household energy efficiency grants totalling £4.4m for Welsh local authorities.

Ten councils across Wales applied for the support and will receive funding to make over 670 homes warmer and better to live in.

Work has already started on some schemes and all improvements are expected to have been made by the end of June. Each project varies but examples of work include installing external wall insulation and energy efficient boilers.

A total of £2.15m is being given by the Welsh Government and £2.25m of match funding from local authorities and energy companies. The Welsh Government launched its Arbed scheme three years ago to make homes more energy efficient. Since then more than £74m has been spent on measures to improve the energy efficiency of 8,500 homes in some of Wales’ most deprived areas.
