Statistics showing primary school attendance is at its highest level since the Welsh Government began collecting the data has been welcomed by both Swansea East AM Mike Hedges and Education Minister Leighton Andrews.
Attendance in Wales was at its lowest in 2005/06 and today’s figures show a 1.3 percentage point improvement since then. Primary attendance now stands at 93.8 per cent. The overall attendance rate improved by 0.5 percentage points on the previous year, the largest single year on year improvement seen in the past five years.
Attendance rates have improved in every local authority in Wales. The percentage of pupils missing more than one fifth of their schooling has reduced by 0.7 percentage points. This reduction is more than double last year’s figure.
