MIKE HEDGES AM WELCOMES NEWS THAT SWANSEA IS TO HOST A NATIONAL SUMMIT ON SCAMS IN WALES.
Mike Hedges AM Chaired a meeting of the Cross Party on Older People where it was confirmed that later in 2018 there will be a National Summit on Scamming and Scams, which will be held in Swansea. £3000 has been awarded by the Communities Secretary, Alun Davies towards the cost of the event which will be organised in Partnership with Age Cymru.
Speaking after the meeting, Mike Hedges AM said…… ‘Being scammed is one of the worst feelings in the world; people feel so foolish for not realising that they were being exploited –often to the extent that they will not speak to anyone about it, even if they have lost thousands of pounds. Elderly people are particularly vulnerable to this sort of exploitation and the summit will enable partners to focus on the best way to combat this awful exploitation of vulnerable people.
I will be publicising full details of the event later in the summer.’
The Cross Party Group on Older People has the purpose of providing a forum to discuss issues affecting older people and the aging process and to formulate suggestions to be forwarded to ministers for consideration.
