Press release on Community Employment Support

MIKE HEDGES AM WELCOMES NEWS THAT COMMUNITITY EMPLOYMENT ADVISORS WORKING IN SWANSEA MEETING WITH SUCCESS.

Following a Question to Communities Minister, Lesley Griffiths at the Assembly last week, Mike Hedges welcomed the news that over 100 people have been supported by Community Employment Advisors based in Swansea.

Mike said ‘ I am so pleased that these new advisors, located within the Community First Clusters have been such a success; over 100 people have been supported to return to the Labour Market. Some of these people will have been unemployed for long periods of time and will require quite intensive support, without which they would remain within the benefits system. Surely, it is better for people to be in work than on the dole.

Gaining employment is such a boost to people’s self confidence and self-esteem; I look forward to meeting people who have benefited from this programme as I make visits around Swansea East’

For info
In Swansea, there are 8 Community Employment Advisors, seconded on to the programme by Job Centre Plus, with a further two due to start shortly.

There will be 5 pairs in each of the Communities First Clusters;
As of 30th September they have assisted over 100 people overcome barriers to employment.
