Press release RE Extra funding for PCSO’s – June 2015

MIKE HEDGES WELCOMES OVER £16M FOR COMMUNITY SUPPORT OFFICERS

Welsh Labour’s Public Services Minister Leighton Andrews has announced over £16 million for the continued funding of 500 Community Support Officers.

Mike said ‘ I welcome the news of further funding for the PCSO’s already appointed to our local Police Forces. I have seen many examples of the good work they carry out in local communities and know how valued they are by those communities. People feel reassured when they see PCSO’s patrolling in their communities. I look forward to working with them in the future.

The Welsh Labour Government is committed to delivering safe and strong communities across Wales and as part of that commitment, it funds 500 Community Support Officers (CSOs) who are additional to those included in the planned policing levels funded from other sources.

The four Welsh Police Forces and British Transport Police have each been awarded a share of £16.8 million to cover the costs of the additional CSOs in their areas.

The funding represents a significant investment by the Welsh Labour Government in community safety at a time of unprecedented pressure on public sector budgets, and on police funding in particular.
